The Red Pump Project, Essence, Ampro and Hydeia

For National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day I took part in Red Power Convos, presented by The Red Pump Project in partnership with Essence Magazine and sponsored by Ampro.
The event took place in New York City inside of the Time & Life Building.
Of cause I seen some familiar faces but met so many new ones.
I have to say, at times some of these events can be very boring and stiff ( keep in mind I've been doing this for over 20 years).
I was pleasantly surprised and how fresh and excited this conversation was, all the women on the panel were so real and honest. It was nice to hear different view points coming together for one cause!
I had the chance to share some of coming to age struggles with dating and men, nope I didn't always make the best decisions nor was in super healthy relationships (mentally) . Looking back at some of my own personal struggles I have to say I can better understand why some women make the choices they do when it comes to relationships and men.
When dealing with HIV/AIDS and women we have to get to the core, its really about building women and girls up, making sure they are not only informed but also their self-esteem and self love is built up so they can have the power within themselves to enforce what they know, to better protect themselves and make wiser decisions. There's an old famous Facebook quote floating around social media, you may have read it. "You date at the leave of your self-esteem!"
There are so many factors in fighting HIV/AIDS but for me, women and girls hold a special place in my heart. So its time to continue to built and repair within our community of ladies!
